Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 (February 27, 2010 Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that portion of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. The West Island, to those who don't know about it, is a huge region that runs from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel is said to originate from the West Island. But this is not the truth. Brugel was born in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She was determined to become professional, however due to an explosive development spurt, she exceeded the size of her dancing friends. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. When I grew out of male companions, I stopped. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement of an instructor in drama from her high-school that led her to take up acting. Her teacher suggested she audition as Anne in the school's annual production. The teacher who suggested that she pursue a role in the school's annual play. It led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across the big and small screens drawing the most attention when she landed the character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian of the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and only seen occasionally was the only Canadian.
